Community Project 2020

Partially burnt house with extensive fire damage and exposed wooden frame.

Formal Educater Home

On December 8, 2020, Ms. Mary lost everything she owned in a fire at her home, including her car and all her possessions. The fire was caused by negligence on the part of the city and the owner of a neighboring property that had been rundown for many years.

Five women standing beside a blue minivan on a residential street.

Used Vehicle

HCRC and neighbors in the community came together to meet the needs of Ms. Mary McKinnon. We raised $6,953 through GoFundMe. Three thousand dollars went toward purchasing a slightly used vehicle, while the remainder was used to rebuild Ms. Mary’s home in Treme. We have assisted Ms. Mary with her basic needs and advocated for her in every way possible. We are very grateful to everyone who supported HCRC and Ms. Mary during this unfortunate situation. This support is a testament to how tragedy can bring people together in the community.

Thank you message with photos of community support and volunteers.

Thank You!

Thank you to everyone who contributed money, furniture, clothes, well wishes, food, and free rides.
